So I wen't to a coin show yesterday w/ some great buys and also came home with some Coin Safe Capsules. The reason I bought them was because they were a lot cheaper at the show ($4.50/10 capsules while Air-tites were $1 ea.) Putting my halfs in, the coins rattle. The coins don't move that much back in fourth (not at all for BU coins), but all of them rattle from side to side. These are all direct fit capsules. Would the slight and fourth rattling damage the cons? Should I just put these airtites in the dust bin and get the "real deal"? At least they aren't made in China. :goof:
You get what you pay for The "Airtite" brand capsules don't rattle because, as the name suggests, they are air-tight.
I have never bought direct-fit before, are the faces of the coin touching the plastic when it's rattled or just the rim? If just the rim, then I wouldn't worry about it. That said, I've noticed that the ring-type air-tites don't always fit correctly and thus rattle. For some reason, smaller (14-20mm) coins tend to require a size smaller air-tite (ie for approx 14.2mm to 15.1mm coins, get a 14mm air-tite) while larger coins (21mm+) fit better with the correct air-tite (ie for approx 20.9mm to 21.8mm coins, get a 21mm air-tite). If I find I bought the wrong size air-tite and they rattle, then I just put the coin in a mylar flip until I can obtain the right size.
Yea there just hitting the rims..although the airtites are the right size (it clearly says HALF DOLLAR), they still rattle from side to side? So much for quality control? I might jsut be worrying too much here, the extra space I'm sure is not even a mm wide...
If you buy them on-line, you can get most sizes of Air-Tites for 50 cents or less each. And I would recommend the ring type as that will eliminate the rattle issue.
