Weird Experience with returning nickels

Hey, it's AmericasNickels.
Yesterday, my mom and I went to the grocery store and while she was getting groceries I went to return 3 rolls of nickels (which I had rolled up earlier that day). When I got to the Customer Service I asked her if I could change the 3 rolls of nickels for $6. She looked at me funny and told me that it was 'against there policy to take loose change' I asked her why and she just said that is was against there policy. So i asked her if the cashier would take them and she said that I would have to go over there and see. I went over to the cashier and she said that she could use them to buy something but that we couldn't exchange money for money.
We ended up having to pay for the groceries in nickels!
Does anybody know why they wouldn't take the nickels?

Because it's their policy.

 

In my experience grocery stores don't exchange rolls for cash. You're better off going to a bank.

 

It could be that they've been burned in the past by someone filling rolls with slugs and foreign coins, but that doesn't explain why they take them at the register.

 

............. I would agree also .... i hope the store wasn't busy at the time counting all those nickels...I usually don't try to spend over 10-15 coins at a time with a cashier, they tend to drop them and lose count. counting wrong. etc.

 

They are not a bank. If i was a company i wouldn't accept rolls of coins. Go change them in at a bank for cash.
