I have seen the following used seemingly interchangeably and was wondering if one or the other is "correct" -

Extremely Fine versus Extra Fine (and for that matter, are these to be abbreviated EF or XF?)

    About Uncirculated versus Almost Uncirculated

Also, is there any difference between Deep Cameo and Ultra Cameo?

Idk about the ef one, but its about uncirculated for the correct au term. Ultra is a further designation of cameo after deep, as in ultra deep cameo, versus just deep cameo.

  4. EF/XF is Extra Fine. Just mix and match the first letter as you see fit.

Regardless of what anyone says, AU is About Uncirculated.

There is no difference between Deep Cam & Ultra Cam...Just the company. maybe their requirements are different to get that designation as far as mirrors go.

The term for the grade between VF and AU that I originally learned was "Extra Fine", which is the term used in my 1970 Redbook. However, sometime between 1970 and 1995, the Redbook changed it to "Extremely Fine" :)

Per ANA Grading Standards the grade above Very Fine is Extremely Fine. It can be abbreviated either XF or EF.

Per ANA Grading Standards, AU = About Uncirculated.

Yes. Ultra Cameo indicates more cameo than Deep Cameo.

Sorry, but Ultra Cameo is NGC's term that PCGS calls Deep cameo. They are one in the same. The only difference is the company slabbing them.

Actually, I'd like to propose adopting the description Super Ultra Deep Extra Frosty Cameo (SUDEFCAM) with the stipulation that this designation be reserved for coins being offered on the various television shopping shows....

I thought ULTRA and DEEP were the same thing just different grading services?
    NGC - ULTRA
    PCGS - DEEP
