If it says "ITVS" (no U's in Latin, V's), I'm guess you mean on the back. Probably you have one with a "GLORIA EXERCITVS" ("Glory to the army," roughly) type reverse. Is there a picture of two soldiers with a "standard" (i.e., the ancient version of flags) or two between them? If you post a photo I'll try to ID it. If you have partial legends, the "partial inscription search" on www.wildwinds.com is great. I tried it for "ITVS" and got this long list of possibilities, all of which are the Roman Soldiers/GLORIA EXERCITVS type: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/findstr.html
You just type in whatever letters you can make out, leaving a space between ones where you don't know what's in between, and it searches a huge database containing almost every Roman coin inscription known. It gets a little harder for ones with Greek characters, but it's a really great tool. It's been up on the web for at least a decade, since I know I was using it when I started selling ancient online.
If you don't get a helpful result, or you just have a pic, feel free to message me

Yes, indeed! It looks nice. There are a few emperors it could be (Constantine the Great and family: Constans, Constatine II, Constans, Constantius II, Delmatius) and a few possible mints. If you can show the flipside or make out the legend, we could probably narrow it down to one exact coins. Can you read the mintmark lettering at all at the bottom under the soldiers' feet?

Welcome to the forum Coin Captain.

It's exciting to own an ancient coin and consider its history. Your coin is quite common, however - lots of collectors equate age with rarity, but it just isn't so. The Romans churned out millions upon millions of these little bronze coins in the 3rd and 4th centuries.

It is a scarcer variety, but still, scarce is relative....

    The reason is above.

Its better here IMO to not post copies of other sites postings or links to go there. Just upload a couple of your pictures. I cant be bothered trying to go thru all you said to contribute any more than was done at the other site.

I just read the entire thread and saw the better picture, so I'll amend my earlier comment and concur with JJ that it may indeed be a scarcer variety of Constans. Value $20 - $30 in its current condition. It could use cleaning, but don't try it until you've practiced on some other, more common coins.

I agree. If you must post a conversation from another forum just provide a link. It's much easier on the eyes.

[edit] Which I see has been provided.......:foot-mouth:

I would start by soaking the coin in distilled water for a month, to see if it loosens any of the dirt. That won't damage it, and it could make a big difference in the eye-appeal.
