I went down to the pawn shop today with a little bit of my tax refund. I bought 3 silver coins. An 1872 GB Sixpence, a 1919 Canada 25 cents and 5 cents. I overpaid for the 25c ($6), but I made that back and more on the sixpence. I paid $3.00 for it. Turns out, it's about a $10-$15 coin. Then I got a 1885 Austrian Heller. The pawn does not have the best lighting. It looked like a beautiful Red-Brown Unc, sadly it has some green on it.
Good choices, particularly the last one. It doesn't look like the deposits would be difficult to remove - they're quite minor. I wish I had a tax refund to spend, but it worked out the other way this year for me: a thousand in the hole.
I love pawnshops. You never know what someone will bring in. I try and get a relationship with pawnshops but they never call when they get coins in
I got some good deals at some pawn shops in SC, but up in this area of North Jersey, you take your life in your own hands going to some of them.
As well they should. I've got four, and my money is better spent on them than on the outlandish waste perpetrated by the government. Even with all the credits, I still get hammered from time to time.
=> wha? => oh man, you should respect and love that coin!! => that nice ol' 100 year old Canadian 25 piece is a work of art and is definitely worth "at least" $15!! ... it's a very cool score!! :thumb:
I feel your pain brother. I'm in the hole for a whole lot more. Still, there's nowhere else that I would rather live in than these beloved United States of America........ [aside] State return did offset the pain a bit.......
