What will be in next years' Proof Sets? Will they include the new Presidential Dollars or must they be ordered separately like the Ike Dollar was years ago? They already include the State Quarters and the 4 Presidential Dollars would mean they must add a third case to the set. We shall see!
Yes, all annual sets (Proof, Silver Proof, and Uncirculated) will incude the presidential dollars) The Mint is toying with the idea of making sliver proof dolalrs for the silver proof sets.
Any news on the SAC Dollar??? Will it be included? Will it go away? If included it will mean the first time in Histroy that 2x dollar coins were in a Mint or proof set??? Anyone know?? RickieB
Well, the law requires them to keep making the Sac's, so I'd guess they'd be in the proof set. The set would contain 5 dollar coins (the presidential ones plus the Sac), 5 state quarters, in addition to the rest of the coins usually included.
Look at it this way: The 2007 proof sets will have four more dollar coins than they do now, ergo the price will go up by more than four dollars a set for clad. A set with those same dollars in silver (if it happens) would raise the price by even more. If that happened, you'd probably be looking at over $50 for a silver proof set, possibly more. Fish
Thanks Fish! Seems like it will be very hard to for me to buy them all, because.. this year it was hard to get them, too. The mint only send to Germany when you're a costumer, and the postage is very high, well, I'll see next year Marvin
In mint sets, yes, P and D make 8 more. In proof sets, there's just the S mintmark, so just four more. Fish
thought they were going to suspend the saq (whatever) dollar till after they finish with the presidents and then continue after they can find a stopping point on the presidential coins, but as ususal I could be wrong. would love to see a big old one ounce george washington in a proof or unc.
The law as quoted in other recent threads requires that Sacs be minted each and every year alongside the Dead Presidents.
I can see a certain amount of interest in the coins as a collectable , especially when George and Martha go on sell. But even if it is a dollar, it is still coinage/change and will not fit into my wallet. into my not so small change bucket.
Try a little Windex on that ball. The 3 new style holders (P/D/S) showing the coin edges will add expense, and there's a $12 increase in the face values ($1 x 4 coins x 3 mints), so the total price increase is more likely to be $26 than $6. Sure glad I don't collect US coins.
The mint sets for next year are going to be insane! I wonder if they got any traction on extending the state quarter program for another year to honor washington DC and whatever 3 territories they can dig up...
That 2007 Proof set should be an interesting one for sre thats all i can say. Ill be getting at least one.lol
Quiet!!! Don't give the politicians any more ideas! I wonder if the mint proceeds with the silver president coins, will they be the size of a Sac. or a Morgan?
It would be cool if they will have the size of a Morgan , but that would raise the price again... Why is collecting that hard? Marvin
I'm not sure, but I don't think the Mint could allocate part of it's production to a silver proof version of the small Deadpres Dollar without another act of Congress, and it definitelyt would take another act of Congress for them to issue a Morgan-size version. The present law specifies a Sac-size and material.
There have been many times in the past when the proof set has had 2 dollar coins. Try 1850 to 1872 and 1873 whenn three dollar coins were possible, then 1874 to 77, three possible in 1878, and then two again 1879 - 1889 . He said the Proof lens, so you are only talking an increase of 4 dollar coins, but yes there will be the extra expense of the new holders but I would suspect they are going to want more that the dollar face value for each so I would think you are probably looking at an increase of maybe $8 - $10 for the clad proof sets.
