I haven't taken a pic of this yet, but I want to find out.... did Mexico mint either a nickel or cupro-nickel 5 centavos in 1973? I just got what looks to be an unc one in a roll of dimes, and it doesn't look brass to me. And I am really hoping someone will answer this without saying we need a pic to tell... 'cuz I have the beginnings of a migraine and don't feel like photoing it and making it nice, and I don't think the question needs to see a pic to tell if there was any minted in that year. :smile
The 5 centavos minted in 1973 was brass. It might not look brass because there is some unusual toning. If it is indeed a copper-nickel planchet from, lets say, 1950, or 1960, then weigh it to be sure. According to Krause:
Does the toning ever look like it's completely made of cu-ni? If yes or no, I will probably pic it later in the week and let others make a judgement call.
I went to my World coin Catalog and Taxidermist is 100 % correct, they made the 5 centavos in co nic in 1960 and 1962..pic would help..
also made copper-nickel in 1965. all very expensive. The 1973, in brass has 2 varieties, Flat top 3 and round top 3. Both very cheap.
