Sorry, I lost the thread for the dumb Ebay listings, but look at this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1892-OVER-3-BAR...7QQihZ013QQcategoryZ11959QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem or: 1892 OVER 3 BARBER DIME ABOUT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION Item number: 230054770217 Yes folks, it is an 1892 over 3! Unique, never before seen 2 over 3. That is if you count the die chip as a variety and as another date.
Okay, I couldn't resist either! I found this in a another forum, but it's pretty funny too... http://cgi.ebay.com/1795-HALF-DIME-VF_W0QQitemZ290054097462QQihZ019QQcategoryZ3357QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The funniest part is the grandpa's collection comments, perhaps so. But, He also has an 1800 Bust Dollar, with the comment: "NEVER CLEANED OR REPAIRED NATURAL TONNING, DETAILS VERY STRONG,THE BEST BUST DOLLAR YOU ARE GOING TO FIND ON EBAY GOOD LUCK!" Yet in his feedback, he purchased a piece, just long enough ago so that the picture is no longer posted, and has the comment: "DESCRIPTION: YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1800 BUST DOLLAR CERTIFIED BY NCS (DIVISION OF NGC) AS VG DETAILS, REPAIRED. NICE EXAMPLE OF THIS EARLY DOLLAR, PLEASE REVIEW THE PICTURES BELOW, THEY REPRESENT THE COIN QUITE WELL. THE COIN PICTURE IS THE COIN UP FOR AUCTION." Gee, could it be the same coin?
I found one that I thought was interesting. See if you can find the one thing that seems odd... Also here's one that I thought was sad... Done auction for a set of quarters... final bid $10 but note the Q&A http://cgi.ebay.com/Beautiful-Holog...DVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330050742287 Q: Could you tell me why the shipping for these coins are so high? maybe an error? thanks. A: It weighs over 2 lbs. It comes in a blue leatherette box, which I probably didn't properly describe. Anyway, the postage is legit. Just as a side, I paid $119.00 for this (what a fool was I). :: ouch ::
Yeah, I found it while looking at various complete sets of quarters as I was toying with the idea of creating a (single coin) circ. or maybe proof state quarter set in an album. Found those hologram jobbies and was surprised at how much they want for 5 of 'em (people seem to sell them for $14-$25 for five per year). Was curious as to if they actually ever sold any and found that completed auction. They might be neat, but I'd only pay 2x face for something like that, unless it comes with a COA then I'd pay 2.1x face.
