Hello everybody. The second 8 of this 1880 Morgan seems to be over seven. It looks as if the coin was struck over an 1879 Morgan Dollar. I hope I am not mistaken. Here is the link.

I don't see it, there should be some visible "gunk" in the top loop of the second 8 or a line through the bottom of the top loop of the second 8? At least thats how mine looks.

Can't see the coin, my antivirus software is blocking it as a possible malicious site. On the other hand it is quite possible as there are several different 1880/79 overdates in the Morgan dollars. it wouldn't be struck over an 1879 dollar though, the redating was done to the die not the coin.

I don't see it either. Looks like a normal 1880 in the picture.

Hello. It seems there are more than one variety in the 8/7 series of the 1880 Morgan series. I would appreciate that fellow member Conder 101, and others would contribute and express their points of view regarding this thread. Thanks ..

Looks fine to me too. No "79" traces there as far as I can tell. But keep in mind that I'm not that familiar with US coins. :)

I don't see the overdate, and God wasn't involved either.

After I blow the image up to the point where it looks like there might be something there the image is starting to pixilate so I can't tell if I am actually seeing something, or just photography artifacts.
