Does the recent announcement from the US Mint mean the end of the Sacagawea Dollar? It appears likely. They will produce a series with 4 US Presidents each year. Where does this leave the Sacagawea? The US Mint claims that by placing the US Presidents on the coins, the dollars will start circulating. This is nonsense. Collectors and others will simply store-away any Presidential Dollars they happen to find. The coin will definitely not circulate and will never be found in change. When was the last time you got a Kennedy Half in change? My last time was when I used the 50 cent slots at Vegas. Now, the slots are coin-free, so I never find any Kennedys.

Unfortunately for Sac haters, the law provides for continuted minting through the Presidential coin series, and a reversion to the Sac design at the end of the program. :(

So there will be no Sacs minted during the Presidential coin series? They will be again produced after the Presidential series is over? I am confused.

nope, the sac will continue through the presidential coin series...

so just to be clear: they will be minting the presidential dollar AND the sac.

The law requires that they strike one Sac dollar for every two President dollars.

If the President coins become very popular theres gonna be a HUGE glut of Sacs.

how loud do people need to yell at the mint: STOP MAKING $! BILLS IF YOU WANT US TO USE THE DOLLAR COIN!!!

The tax payers paid for a study in the 70's on how to get Americans to use $1 coins, one of the biggest findings was to STOP MAKING $1 BILLS! (and make the coin look good)

you know what we did? nothing that the study we paid for said.
and guess what? the $ coin failed....
do you know who actually followed the study? the Canadians. and it worked.

All they need to do is make a nice looking $ coin with Washington on it, stop printing paper money, sure some people will complain at first, but they will get over it. Switching to coins instead of paper will save the tax payer a lot of money in the long run, heck, i say get rid of the $5 bill and replace it with a coin as well.

just think 2 one dollar coins at the same time and the majority of people who will want them are collectors. George may be hot becouse he is George and the program is new. how desireable will this coin be for some of the less that great president.
