In the past few months here at cointalk, there seems to have been an "ancient invasion", a whole wealth of people that are new to CT, discussing ancients. Now there is not a thing wrong with that, but it seems as if the site has become overpopulated with ancient collectors. Now at one time CT had it's own politics, religion, and world events sub-forum on here. This was before I was a member on here. It got to be so big, that a sister site was created for it, called Partisan lines. Cointalk also has another sister forum for stamp collectors, but I don't know if that was ever a sub-forum here as well. Now with the sudden influx of ancient collectors, do you think maybe it would be a good idea to have a sister site for ancient coin collectors? I see it as a win-win. The US and World collectors can have this site, and the ancient coin collectors can have their own, free from our interference.
This topic has been mentioned a few times lately and I personally am happy with the current set up. I enjoy world coins just as much as ancients. I have bought over a dozen coins just because a world collector shared one and I loved the type to get one myself. If separate I would probably miss out on those kind of posts.
I think an ancient sub-forum within CT is a good idea, but sending off the ancient collectors to another site? Why? It's not politics or stamps. It's still coins.
The ancient collectors aren't hurting anyone with their presence. Actually I find some of their threads more interesting than many of the threads in the U.S. or Coin Chat subforums which have gotten kind of boring as of late with not a whole lot of activity. Why would you want to banish ancient collectors to another site Detecto? I do think that giving them their own sub-forum might be a good idea.
