    Hello Everyone,

Can anyone tell me or direct me to a source where I might find out all the different variants of the 1969 United States penny? I was going through my pile last night and think there may be at least 3 different mintings just for the 'S' penny.

Also, can anyone tell me if the date and the mint letter is stamped at the same time, or do they stamp one, then the other? I'll be posting some pictures soon as I just took them, but I have to crop and straighten them, then draw lines so everyone will be able to see what I'm trying to describe.

    Thank you

I don't collect Lincoln cents, so I'm not familiar with the varieties of the 1969, but at that time, the mintmark was punched into the die by hand. It wasn't until many years later that the mintmark was incorporated into the die-making process.

The mintmark was punched into the working dies, so the date and mintmark are struck in unison.
I'm getting a vibe that you are finding cents where the mintmark is in different locations compared to the date. This is normal, as the mintmark was added by hand. There are definitely more than 3 working dies produced that year (or "mintings" as you say). Check out coppercoins.com to see varieties for that year.
    Keep up the hunt!
