I'm not being fully serious about this, but I wanted to see how some other posters would respond to this question. If PCGS is better Than NGC then why is NGC the official grading service of both PNG and ANA? I'm only serious enough to be curious enough to ask.
What does that say about the integrity of the ANA and PNG, organizations that are supposed to be fair, educational and disregarding of any commercial bias?
Interesting thing is to look at the difference in coin prices on each of their websites. I assume the difference in price is not necessarily that of the coin but whether one service grades more conservatively than the other.
It says that even non-profit organizations have to find ways to raise revenues to keep operating. Do you really think your membership dues cover all costs? Chris
Ok I'll play. Heavy hitters bet on Pcgs while the average smart collector bets on NGC. I play all 4 grading companies because I know a thing or 2 about how to grade and make a few dollars in this hobby. Other than that, frankly don't care if any TPG belongs to Diners Club, Holiday Inn Express Or Donald Trumps Hair for men club. Certain people are making money within the TPG's while Stock Holders are crossing their fingers believing the inside thieves are going to make them a buck or two at the end of the year. This response probably doesn't have anything about what you asked. Just don't like those that think one is better that the others. Foolish..
Also seeing that one is supposed to be a non-profit educational collectors society (ANA) and the other a dealer integrity watchdog/consumer advocacy group (PNG) I personally find the idea of any commercial bias in either one to be a bit inappropriate. [Note: This is not an attack on corporate sponsorship of non-profit organizations which I completely support as long as it doesn't cause the type of "This company is our official company" bias that I think I'm noticing here.]
It has nothing to do with their grading policies. PCGS maintains their own price guide. NGC does not. It is maintained by Numismedia. Chris
I would hope that certain people are making money inside ALL businesses. Otherwise they are apt to go broke. How many of them are publicly-traded capital stock corporations? Chris
Although I'm well aware of the integrity of these two groups, (PNG & ANA), I still find the idea of commercial bias in any non-profit organization to be kind of inappropriate, no matter how strong their integrity.
Would you prefer them to be fools ? Both organizations need money to stay up and running. NGC and PCGS are the two most highly trusted TPGs in the industry, and as such only of them is ever going to be chosen as the company that may use the logos of the 2 organizations as part of their advertising. In a general sense, neither NGC or PCGS is trusted more than the other. That much must be accepted as reality, a simple matter of fact. So there is only one way for the 2 organizations to decide just who gets to use their logos - the highest bidder. There simply is no other way to decide.
I've always wondered: why does the ANA uses NGC as their official grading service, but they have their own service, ANACS?
First of all, who said PCGS is "better" than NGC? I think most serious collectors would equate the two, and say that they are both premium grading services. As regards endorsements and designations, that is purely revenue generation and advertising.
