I have a 1914 Buffalo Nickle with strong doubling on the left side of the date and in Liberty. Has anyone any information on this? Thanks
There are two varieties listed in the Cherry Pickers guide. Both are highly collectible in the grades of VG and better. Both varieties listed are for the doubled over date. The doubling (overdate) is seen as the straight bar of the underlying 3 at the top of the 4. If you can post a close up pic of the date, someone will be able to tell you if your coin matches these known varieties.
Thanks, I do not have the ability to take a photo that close. I have the old David Lange Complete guide to BUFFALO NICKELS and mine is like the DDO-1 on the 1915 except it is on the left side and to the top. I went to buy The Cherry Pickers Guide today but the only coin store close to me closed as I drove up. I will try them tomorrow. I found this looking at my nickels after seeing the pictures in Numismatic News some time back that showed the 1914/13. I Had the 1918/17 for years and thought it would be nice to have the 1914/13 as a pair. Thanks for your time.
