I have a question. I have been researching some of my German Pfennigs, and have a 1948G 1 pfennig. From what I have read, the 1948G is a rare date/mint combination. Is this true? I was only able to find F marks on the '48-'49 pfennigs. Can anyone clarify? Thank you.

    According to my Krause catalog:

    1948G 1 Pfennig mintage is 45,604,000

    1948F 1 Pfennig mintage is 68,203,000.

These mintages are for business strikes.

Among the 1948 coins, the Karlsruhe (G) pieces are the "rarest" ones indeed, but "rare" is relative. :) The other mints (according to the Schön catalog) made 46.3m (D), 68.2 (F) and 79.3m (J). How many of them survived is not known.

Ok thanks. That must have been why the word "rare" came up. Appreciate it, chrisild.
