I have done my best Krause Manual search, and believe this to be a #758. That would be a French 20 centimes from between 1849 and 1851. This coin has some serious wear, but created a bit of excitement as I struggled to identity it. It's .500 silver. I am not too familiar with French coinage yet, but thought this would be a cool one to share with the community. By the way, I got this out of a change slot in a soda machine. Best darn Pepsi I ever bought!:D

Haha. I actually DID go back that machine, to no avail, of course. Yea...just walking by it and saw an odd looking coin, and there it was. Someone must have gotten frustrated their dime wasn't working and left it. Worked out pretty well for me, Id say. Any idea what something like this could go for? The local coin dealer in my (po-dunk) town offered to buy, but I hadn't done any research at the time, so I turned him down. I kinda like it. I just don't have any French collections going. Maybe a good coin to start with? Opinions welcome.

Well, too bad there is no date. If it was an 1849 a $125 would be about right. 1850 - $3, 1851 - $5.

Probably no need to ask, but is there any way to determine the date? Possibly by other parts of the coin? Thank you, Ripley.

Yes a Magna-glo or Magna flux test may reveal the date.
