the photo i bought this coin with on ebay of just the reverse wasnt very good aand it appeared more worn than it is ! so naturally i assumed the worst for the portrait but ive been very pleasantly surprised
Two new Goetz patterns. These are both graded PF65 BN and have a great purple wash on chocolate brown fields. Really attractive in hand. Lots of nice patterns from this era were created and are fun to collect when they surface.
1971 Panama 150th Independence Anniversary 20 Balboas 60.9mm; 131.5gm Not truly my latest, but mislaid for a month or so. I don't think I posted it previously; if so, please forgive & delete this. Not too beat up (except for the big hit on the 'N' in BENIFICIO); as I recall, I got it for near melt (then).
1618 Double Tournois I felt this was an acceptable coin having all the lettering and wanted to add at least one french copper into my Canadian colonial collection. It may be the oldest coin I have with a date on it in numbers I can read. 1618 D (Lyons) Double Tournois Louis XIII France & Pre-Confederation Canada LOVIS-XIII-R-DE-FRAN-ET-NAV-D OBVERSE 1618-DOVBLE-TOVRNOIS REVERSE
Some Panamanians: 1940 1.25c, mintage 1,600,000. This one's in great shape with a matte-like finish. The dark mark near 7 o'clock on the reverse is a small scratch that the light hit at the wrong angle. 1940 2.5c, mintage 1,200,000. Of the two that I got, this one is nicer.
1966 half Balboa, 40% silver, mintage 1,000,000. Can't tell if it's the incomplete helmet rim or just worn. 1947 Balboa, 90% silver, mintage 500,000. I've wanted one of these for a while, such a gorgeous coin.
I love pattern coins. These are the first I have seen from Germany. Was reading up on Karl Goetz. Very cool. Thanx for the post. Very nice collectables
just now got this 1923 BELGIUM 2 FRANCS EXTRA FINE off Ebay: I have 1 franc, and this 2 francs on the way and another 50 centimes of this same obverse design also coming on the way. nice little set. :too-cool-for:
