    Good afternoon CoinTalk,

So, I've been looking to get a nice 1853 Seated Liberty half. I've been keeping my eye on this one, but something about it just doesn't feel right. I don't know if its the color, Liberty'd giant nose, or the fact that its coming from overseas. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm thinking counterfeit What do yall think?

    Thanks

At first I thought it was just a lighting and photo angle issue... but I'd avoid since the seller is new and from overseas. Could be legit and the seller could be an honest, stand-up guy for sure, but due to all the fakes out there, I just set a personal boundary of only buying in the U.S. and from sellers with more feedback.

Keep looking this one year type coin should be purchased certified by one of the better TPG firms.

It looks counterfeit to me, but even if genuine the coin has been worked to death and is horrible. Avoid this look and you will be much happier down the road.

Looks genuine to me, but I would not be the one to purchase that piece.
Not necessarily. Even for a one year type coin, they are quite common.

It looks like it might have been a nice coin before it was cleaned. Too bad.:(
