well, according to what everybody on cointalk has told me about low grade draped bust cents, they are only worth about $1.00 each.
Thats interesting - because I've never seen anyone actually say that. I would buy all of them for $1 each - i've posted some draped cents in the past asking for help confirming attributions that I tried to place on coins and I don't recall ever being told they were only worth $1 each. however, even if they were - I'd still keep buying them - I don't pretend to collect the series or anything like that but I think old copper is awesome. I love that I can give it to my kids and they can touch them, hold them etc. and not have to worry about just touching the coin causing problems. I buy them on occasion and always when they are a "good" deal and I've never been lucky enough to find them for $1 each.
draped bust cents yes, you are right about how they never sell for only $1.00 each. that was the point of my comment. some of the people on cointalk told me they sell on ebay for $1.00 each and i tried to tell them that is not true. but they insist that low grade draped bust large cents can be purchased on ebay for only $1.00 each. even though they never sell for $1.00 each.
That would be an absurd statement considering dateless and corroded beaters sell for many times more than that. Even in lowball grades, it's a very collectible series.
I remember the thread and do not recall anyone telling you this, even though a few examples were given of coins selling for a few dollars (heavily corroded and/or damaged). If you want to bring this back up, you might as well tell the whole story, or at least as much as you told us before. You blindly sent 10-11 heavily corroded, damaged, severe problem coins (not just low grade as stated earlier) to a nameless dealer assuming that you would profit, but did not bother to tell the dealer your expectations. Maybe this attitude and refusing to listen or even consider what others who just might have more real-world experience than you is why you cannot make money in this business. Bash all you wish, but at least some of us were only trying to help you understand the realities of your actions. Yes... sometimes multiples the $1 each. Beef posted a few completed examples in the aforementioned thread, and this was ebay; not to a dealer who may or may not have the market, time, or will to deal with widgets. The guy made a mistake and seems to not want to admit it.
did you buy the third coin in the photos on ebay? because i bought the exact same coin on ebay. it is an 1803 draped bust cent with a small date and small fraction. i just sent that coin back today for a refund.
