Well got the grade back on this guy... Now it's time for the whole story. This coin was originally in an SEGS PF 62 holder. The coin had some pretty bad haze. After an acetone soak I photographed it here and then sent it to NGC. The coin went PF 63 at NGC today.
Nice, seems like ngc was a bit harsh....or all those who replied are loose proof trade dollar graders ... good to know though that it crossed that well
Even though NGC, this is a fine example of how better material can sometimes be found in what are generally perceived as lesser holders. I wonder if any of those who usually dismiss this fact will be chiming in...
Nah. That baby is as described--it is a solid proof coin, and has gorgeous natural toning. I would have gone even higher in grade than PF 63, but I can agree with NCG. Do you often see Trade Dollars that are that clean, and not polished to death, or covered with chop marks?
OH, I agree. I have crossed some nice stuff from SEGS and ICG before--it isn't as if they don't have some nice coins. Same goes for ANACS--I think that most of the nicest coins owned by savvy collectors are usually PCGS or NGC, but beautiful coins exist in many sources.
