I have found where the Red Book on Morgans by Bowers is recommended. Are there others that you would also recommend? I have found plenty by just searching the web, but since I know nothing about morgans, vams, etc. I thought I would get some recommendations. Maybe a VAM book also. These are books for my father for Christmas. OOPS - forgot to add he also wants a book on proof sets. Any recommendations here? Thanks
The Red Book on Morgans is nice. I have a copy and I like how it also gives a snap shot of what is happening in the country for each year. The VAM (Van Allen and Mallis) book is going to be my next purchase. Sorry, but I am not sure about the proof book.
I have Bower's Red Book on Morgans and like it. I have the VAM book, and I constantly reference it. However, you should know that it is now a bit incomplete. Not sure of the exact numbers. I think there are 3000 VAMs listed in the book, but there are over 5000 known VAMs. If you want to keep up to date, you have to buy the supplemental updates that Leroy Van Allen provides each year. How about the Top 100 VAM book? How the 1921-D "Fun with 1921" book by Rob Joyce? There is also the Top 50 Peace dollar VAM book. Mark Kimpton's book on clashed die Morgans is also great (Elite Clashed Morgan Dollars).
