My biggest suppler of cents, a gentlemen that owns 6 newstands, just informed me that I've inspired his son to start collecting as well. In a week his son found a 1913d. I said " that's great!!!.... whatcha got for me?" "Nothing right now" I hope this kid gets bored with it soon.
I'm really trying to see it that way Topcat, I really am, but now I feel anything o find will be someone's pick
Strategy: Bring the father a selection of your duplicates to give to his son as a gift from you. Then see if the father starts to supply you again. TC
You could try roll searching from a bank. I wouldn't be disappointed that you helped inspire a new young collector.
Since this is supposed to be a hobby, you should feel flattered. Offer to help him any way you can. Chris
You did great by opening the door for a new collector. You also have his dad as a friend and i am sure if the young one loses instrest in the coins you would be the first to buy them. This may be a bigger gift than you know. Sometimes a door you open will close for a while but when it opens again it may be worth the wait. Now that the dad is helping his son wonder who else he will contact for more coins.
I did offer my services if he wants help with anything. Everything I've ever learned was from the kindness of strangers, and I pass it on. I guess I'm being a bit selfish, but a 1913d would have been a great pick! Maybe I'm jealous. And I do bank roll hunt, but its nothing like this particular connection.
I can understand your feelings, there may be a bigger picture here that we do not see. It is entirely possible that there may have been a disconnect between he and his son, and your inspiration may have closed the gap.....maybe the boy was headed "in the wrong direction" and now has found a hobby. Keep your head up high my friend, as stated in earlier posts.....the door that you have opened may bear a much bigger reward than you may ever know.
I just saw the kid. Its a damaged/corroded 43d steel, not a 13d.Lol he was a bit disappointed, he thought the wheats would be falling out of the trees, so I brought him some 40s and 50s to get the ball rolling.
don't be disappointed or distained .. you inspired a fellow collector.. its a joy and a blessing rejoice in it.. makes your collecting much more fun... teach your joy.. and youll have fun.. take him to a show or something...
