    Ardatirion Où est mon poisson

    260/59 BC. I'd have to check, but it should be from: F. Duyrat. Arados Hellénistique: Étude historique et monétaire. Beirut. 2005.

    Very cool. I also found this online corroborating your start date.

    In 259 BC Arados increased her autonomy and dominated a federation of nearby cities including Gabala, Karne, Marathos and Simyra. Nevertheless, in the interests of safety the Aradians still accepted the overlordship of the Seleukid government in Antioch-on-the-Orontes.

    Tyche Bold and Inhand...

    Ah yes with the coin in hand, I can confirm it is much better then pictures can let on. Here I tried to photograph it on a black background, but I don't think I really captured how awesome the toning is, I found the surfaces are far more reflective that previous thought. The toning is surprisingly even throughout the obverse and reverse. I also took my own dimensions. They are as follows...

    26.6 mm x 14.90 g

    The coin is bold and has a very nice high relief and details on a smaller thicker flan. Although Tyche flaunts a scowl, she is beautiful none-the-less.I often wonder what the impression of the coin was supposed to be. I find it quite scary to see the Goddess of random events and wealth with a frown. I really am more than pleased, I feel like after all the thousands of years this goddess shined on me.

    I am really glad I didn't miss this example.:sniper:

    I'd love to find more Tyche's, but for now I have to be happy with a computer that works. No coins for a while (except I might be able to get away with spending money from the coins I sell....Hmmmm)

    I am not parting with my "precious". That was kinda like an insider thing with John. He and I recently agreed on a deal. But, bring it on my coin brothers. Bring it on. You never know what make me part with one of my beauties.

    1. cretan. Someone who is an idiot and lacks gravitas

    => gravitas
    was one of the Roman virtues, along with pietas, dignitus and virtus. It may be translated variously as weight, seriousness and dignity

    ahahahaha ...

    Well done => man, it was such a cool response (very Greek of you my good friend!!)

    Well, my parents brought me up to believe that a man's word is his bond. If I give my word or a hand shake on something, you can bet your life I will do my utmost. If it's within my control, whatever it is, it will be done. As my Pappy would say, "the good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise...."

    Nice bronze Ribley. The worn effect gives it character. These bronzes passed through more hands than the precious metal coins.

    I wonder is your coin also from Arados? Or another part of Phoenicia? I would like to to try and read the date if possible. I have to look into the coin and see if the dating is the same and/or if the coin even possess a date. The coin is cool anyway you swing it. I love really do love Tyche.
