=> man, I think that's so very true, medoraman ... I wonder if collecting ancients will become more popular now that shopping via the net is so perfectly simple and efficient? (man, I can buy coins from Germany and have them arrive at my door just as quickly as I get coins from most of the neighboring provinces and/or from the states!!) ...

I think it has done two things simultaneously, so I am not quite sure what the net effect will be. One, it has made it much easier to buy from around the world, so the old fashioned dealer that many used to have to rely on no longer has a monopoly on our purchases. OTOH, it has greatly increased the potential for collectors of these.

I am wagering long term it will lead to increased prices. That is ok, though. At least I would have more people potentially that might understand just what the blazes I am talking about. :) Heck, even here I think maybe just AN, Bill, and Doug really give a crud when I go off on some Sogdian or Hepthalite rant, and maybe not even them. :(

That's ok though, even though I don't collect Romans I know enough to make it sound like I know something sometimes.

Chris, I'm up for any Sogdian and/or Hepthalite rant you might want to engage in. I'm all for edumacation.

Just a quick update. New computer and was able to take the hard drive out of the old and connect to the new. I think I have most of my stuff. So far, the only problem I perceive is I used Windows Live mail and it's not compatible with Windows 8. So, I have lost all my saved emails and contact addresses. Bummer. But, hey, my coin files are all intact.

Ugh, here he goes again about those ugly little bronzes. I wonder if I can sell him an old booger and convince him that it's a rare issue from Kashmir-Smast. :D

Well put it this way- after one of your rants I found myself trying not to spend a ton of money on a large bronze cash coin in the imitation of the Chinese but instead of Chinese it had some kind of script I did not recognize from Sogdiana. I didn't buy it but it sure gave me a hot flash.

He likes lots, so make it 25 boogers and it's a deal.

I just got the first batch of low grade coins in. I'm having fun scanning them in and then attributing the coins. Not only is it fun to do, but these I've obtained with my birthday money. It is my birthday and was pleasantly surprised to see them in the mail box this morning. Once again, these photos are all scans so they may look a little worse than in hand.

Now for the first coin. Feel free to post your Caligula coins as well, if you wish.

Gaius Caligula AE As. 37-8 AD. 9.7g, 27mm

OBV: C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT, Bare head left.

REV: VESTA above, S C across field, Vesta seated left, holding patera and sceptre.

This will be my 97th attributed coin, soon to be that 100th milestone!

Thanks, VK. The Caligula was $37, including shipping. I couldn't find a better cheaper one during the time I had money.
