    Hey all,

According to Schwartz/Lindquist, the highest known star serial is *03330983A.

This is the note I came across. The serial of the note is quite a distance from the highest known star. And because the Schwartz/Lindquist book is known for having errors, I am a bit cautious.

I checked Track & Price and neither the highest known note nor this note are listed.

Does anyone have any records of the print range for these notes? Do you guys think this is the highest known serial number? If so, what do you think it would fetch at auction?

    Thanks!

The serial numbersd listed in S-L are reported ranges based on observed examples. The 1928-A sheets were on the press at the same time as some 1928 sheets based on the reported numbers in S-L as the numbers overlap for regular notes and stars. Because of the overlap there are no official records for the serial numbers for these notes which is why S-L lists the reported high and low numbers.

It's 10,000 numbers higher than the highest I have recorded, which is also the highest listed in S&L. The 1928A stars are $5 rarities. The guide lists them at $800 in VG-F, but that's probably a bit high. Most of the known notes are in lower grades. Search the Heritage archives for past prices.

Thanks. I have checked out HA. Most go for $300 to $400 in such condition. How much added value does the serial number bring to the table in this case?

No premium added by the serial number.

i would have to agree with Jamericon. below is a note i sold a few months back. while it is not as rare as your note it is a pretty hard note to get. i didn't get any premium at all. it actually went less than it is valued at. it's all a matter of someone wanting something like that. that is your only chance of seeing a premium. i even had a note i sold a few years ago that was the exact highest serial listed and still not much of any premium.
