How do you return all those halves??? Do coinstar machines accept them? Do you deposit them in your bank? Been thinking about hunting them. Thanks.
Our local bank does have a machine that counts coins. We (my son and i) have noticed that you must feed it VERY slowly (for halves) otherwise it pucks and won't take anymore coins...no matter what it is. It is a pain!
Yes certain machines you do need to feed in slow, but others don't seem to have a limit. It is probably always good to feed it slow anyways. But back to the OP's question every single bank I have been in has a coin machine. Its weird seeing people post about banking at places that don't have coin machines. If your bank does NOT have a coin machine I would highly recommend that you find a bank or credit union and open a savings account or something small that would allow you free access to their coin machine. I believe dumping them in the coin machines are one of the easiest ways to get rid of them if you are just starting to hunt them. And don't do coinstar. The fee is going to eat up so much of your money.
Both My Credit Unions have Machines so I dump and run. If you have a cCedit Union in your area see if they have a counter and open an account that way it is FREE to dump.
I dump at PNC. I have opened an account exclusively with them. Having $400 tied up in a savings account isn't very much for me. Plus where I work, there are literately like twelve PNC branches in a square mile.
How do you find a bank that has a coin machine that's free? The only one I know about around me charges even for members....
you can spend them too .. I spend all the halves I get from the bank ...almost everyone likes to get them too
call all the local banks and ask?...my bank waives the charge since I have an account..otherwise its a percent or 2
US Bank has different policies for each branch. The one in Salt Lake City where I dump my extras has been very kind...the one in my hometown has been extremely rude. But there is also a Navy Federal Credit Union that has stated they're more than happy to accept halves...so I'd say you'll just have to do some research...but don't ever waste your money on Coinstar, unless you plan to use the money on Amazon or Starbucks gift cards (I believe the fees were waived for these the last time I used one.)
Yes, I know that Coinstar waives fees for Amazon GC's....but wouldn't want to always cash in that way.
I called around and was able to find a place to return my coins. They take everything except for Ike's so it works out okay. Just call and ask. Some bank websites have that information on their websites.
I just bring in the rolls and trade for a new roll. or i hand them to the teller and deposit them straight into my account. But i'm not sure if all banks do this, i'm just friends with the entire staff at my local bank.
Open savings accounts in banks that have counting machines and dump over there. That's the easiest way to do it. We used to go two bags per box and at most four bags at any given bank at any given time. Spread them out and hit them once every month or so and they don't complain too much. I opened starter accounts for my little brat (affectionately speaking) in three banks that had a lot of branches and those were our rotation.
I sometimes even take them to banks i dont have accounts at and ask for cash return. I'm probably going to end up getting banned from all of these banks aren't i?
lol...it's not really banned but maybe strongly discouraged...the lines from the teller usually starts with "well, you are not a customer and I'm not suppose to do this but..." or the more agressive tellers will say "sorry, no...". I push anyways until the later... Always be nice..."i really appreciate it...", "thank you so much..." etc etc... it's worth a few more visits or more
Just open an account there and deposit the coins to the account. They won't give you any problems that way.
I cant open my own accounts yet since i'm 17 and would have to go under my parents but it's my friends mom who is the clerk there anyways so i dont think she'll tell me to leave (unless i go there too often, lol)
