I've had my pres dollars in yellow paper coin envelopes. I know the pres dollars are very reactive so I e expressed concern about chemicals from the paper harming them. Well with eBay buck I bought some saflips that I plan to transfer them to. Now here's my question. Should I "air them out" to let the chemicals from the paper storage to disperse, say on a towel put in the open for a few days or in a tub with silica? Or is this unnecessary and just transfer them over? Thoughts on airing out coins?
If the chemicals from the paper got on the coins, "airing them out" won't remove them. Chances are they have already seeped into the surfaces and they will need a long-soaking bath in something to get the chemicals out (if that even works). I'm not sure on how safe silica is, but I'm sure someone will chime in.
Airing them out will not change anything or (more likely) whatever is in the air will be added into the mix that is already brewing on metal surface, and the results will be visible in a year or two.
