OK. I'm just going to jump right in. I'm new, so be kind. I have been studying Dr. Wile's Washington quarter book intensively and have a couple of questions maybe some of you can answer. I can understand attaching a specific Die Marriage Registry number to a coin that can be traced to specific obverse and reverse dies. Where I get confused is the assigning of a DMR number to a pairing of obverse and reverse dies that are not unique. For example, as near as I can tell, DMR-1 for each series is the typical obverse and the typical reverse dies although typical may represent any one of a number of dies from the same hub, or even master die. Should I assume that this number represents Master dies rather than working dies. My second question is in regard to die with evidence of retouching. Would not the extent and exact pattern of retouching be enough to identify a die? I have a 1934d quarter that has the small D reverse and an unretouched obverse and one that has a retouched obverse. Yet both are assigned the same DMR. If anyone can clear up my misconceptions, I would appreciate it. Thanks
