I'm headed to a coin auction where they're offering a 1798 Large Cent. I spoke with the seller who told me when he got the coin it had been stored in a PVC holder and had it removed by acetone but it hasn't been cleaned. He said the coin is dark brown but has nice surfaces. No pictures of the back of the coin possible.

Where do you see the price of this coin going? It does have a reserve.

2nd hair style, don't know if that helps with the variety.

The variety is S173, the rim break over RTY is diagnostic, it's an R3 variety. The coin looks like it has original surfaces, but it has corrosion or some other surface damage as well. With the corrosion I don't know what it will sell for. I would call this 30 net 12 and would not pay too much more than $250, although it may very well go for higher.

30? Net 12? Are we looking at the same coin? It appears EF/AU to me..... The ribbon has next to no wear.....
