1872 sovereign St. George 'M' Fine?
1806 8 reales Potosi Fine? or Fake?
Both coins are scanned , rather than photographed, thus the flat appearance...
What approximately are these coins worth?

Without better pics and more information I can't say if the coins are authentic or not. But assuming they are the 8 reales would be worth about $80 or so and the sovereign about $160.

Thanks. I have much higher resolution images of these coins. How do people usually post high res images ?

To post pics of more than 100 kb you have to place them on a web site and then use either the url or directly place the link into the post. But it's the physycal size of the pics I was referring to, not the file size.

I'm no expert, but although I don't see any obvious problems with the sovereign, the rims on the 8 reales seem to be a little bit off.

Doug - is that common on the real (pun intended) thing[IMG]

Better pics - I would now suggest that you weigh the 8 reales. I see some things that might make me suspect the coin - the weight would help me make up my mind.

As for the sovereign, it looks like it might be slabbed - is it ?

Yeah, they were commonly struck off center like that.

Unfortuanately don't have an accurate scale at home... Will weigh the 8 reales when I get a chance.
The Sovereign is not slabbed, I stuck it in that plastic holder. Thanks for all the information.

Can you take a pic of the sovereign outside the holder ? I'd like to see if it is the holder causing that look or if it is the coin.

sovereign is offsite, when I get another chance I will photograph it.
the scanner makes the coins look very flat and diffused.

Actually, that is normal on many of these. I'm more concerned with the legends and date and what might be small casting bubbles.

I too would like to see the soveriegn outside the case. The surface of the coin as it appears in the holder seems to be abrasively cleaned.

I believe the sovereign is genuine. Out of the case it looks not disimilar from other type sovereigns I have.
As mentioned, the flat lighting produced by the scanning lamp, makes it look weird.
The 8 reales, could be a fake, I don't think it is, but I'd still love it if it was ;)
