Ancient Convex Shape

    Hello. I already posted this new find under a general thread for a different reason. I was not at first aware that this Byzantine coin of Emperor Anastasius has a convex shape on the upper side of obverse. Is this familiar with ancient coins. I mean the convex shape. Please excuse the low condition of the new find.

    Yes, its a coin for a beggers cup. Common in Eastern Roman empire coins.

    Some Anastasius 40 nummi do have this for some reason. I have never read why, except technically they were getting used to minting large bronzes again.
