    Hey everyone,

So, a friend of mine here in SLC inherited his father's coin collection and he asked me to go through it. I found what looks like a California Gold token. Here is a link to a website showing exactly what the token looks like:

    http://www.calgoldcoin.com/bear5.htm

It's Bear 5, Minerva #1 about halfway down. This token weighs .7 grams and is approximately 13mm in diameter. I'd appreciate if you could tell me if it's a real California gold token, as I have very little experience with these.

There is No denomination marking on the piece. It is NOT a coin.

Good lord. I hope that was worth it for you. I called it a token four times and accidentally used coin once.

It does not appear to be identical to the one you are linking. These are generally not gold or are a very low gold alloy.

If a California Fractional Gold Token has a bear on the reverse it is most likely not genuine.
