The area near the rim is a fold over the area circled in Red is lamination as you can see the medal peeling off the platchet. The rim fold was just that a section of rim that broke off durring minting and was fused into the coin. These type errors I find are due to improper annealed blanks.
It looks more like a lamination error to me, but I am not an error expert. It looks more like a LAM than a fold over IMO. I don't think this is a $25-40 coin. Paddy, , are those your pics (the "examples" you posted)? I saw them in an ebay auction. If they aren't yours I think you should at least give credit to the owner...
It seems that a person who oftens states they have "No Experence in Errors" etc always seems to have alot to say about nothing! And what you think and know are two different things!
If voicing my opinion is a crime, then I am guilty as charged. Just because I am not very well-versed in errors does not mean I can't still give a guess as to what is going on with the coin. I also never said I have "no experience in errors", I just say "I am not an error expert".
1. Save the coin 2. Buy some mint and send me some.....THEN.. 3. Eat some mint. I say send me some first because if you flip 2 and 3, there will be no mints to send me. I know this.
