I have searched for information on this half penny and cant seem to find out about the die breaks below bust and from the queens head that runs to the rim beside b in britt. doubling on the inner ring .this coin from what i have found searching seems to be different then the others i have looked at . any and all information is very much appreciated thanks
Can anyone give me anything on the grade of this coin and possible any information on the die breaks . and is it listed as a variety in any coin books .
Die breaks are errors, not varieties. I am not aware of a source that catalogues specifically die breaks etc.
1st One Very nice Vicky half penny! that can cost a lot. but the finger print could devalue the coin to a UK/GB purest collector. Die crack ? I am not a expert. but I am working on a Queen Victoria set 1/2 + penny's 1838-1899 pence thru Crowns. I will say this I think its a Off center strike due to the Beading being a bit off? I will have to go to my books + links of Great Briton coinage maybe find the answer.@ over 60yrs old I am still learning yet as 56 yr of coin collecting this on some coin I am a new bee.
:thumb: I will keep tune in on this thread. 2 minds are helpful I always have thought. Plus we do have other Cointalk members who's knowledge is a lot better than mine. Thank you for the compliment.!!!
I sent this two photo of yours go a very good buddy in UK He told that:scratch: 1860 thru 1876 UK and Canadian mint were work together on the penny.as the Canadian half was be merged in a 1 penny They had a lot of off center strikes like this one.His text starts @ 1860, I have not found that in any books yet Cp
The only information i can find only talks about off center strikes . cant find one wedsite that talks about die breaks . all information you provide Jello helps a lot and i would like to thank you for taking the time out to help .
There are many many coins, from all over the world, that have die cracks. Very few of them are 'listed', but that doesn't mean that if you can't find it mentioned somewhere that it's rare/scarce, or valuable. If it were a retained cud die-break, it would have a premium, but I doubt this one has a premium for a (nice) but common type of die crack.
