I'm pretty sure the first one is from Turkey and the year is 1896. The year on one side is 1293 in Islamic. The other side says year 22 of the sultan's reign, so you need to look under 1293/22 in the Krause book. I can't tell the denomination. Might be 5 Kurush.
Turkey was not founded until 1926. Your post did remind me of the ottoman empire. Coin number #1 is from the ottoman empire. I believe it's a 5 Kuruş.
Looks like this one ! Thank You very much! http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...gory=56549&worldcoinid=153114&FromSearch=true
On the Ottoman coin, the Sultan's reign is 33 and not 23. That would be year 1907 AD . If the denomination is 5 Kurush indeed, then you are under KM#737. I suppose your coin weighs around 6 grams. Charles
I just saw this thread & was immediately going to correct this data. I would not want the OP to make any important decision about the two coins based upon bad (wrong) data. Thanks to Hiddendragon for providing additional information regarding the correct country of origin for the first coin & the correct date on the Iran coin.
The Republic of Turkey came into existence in 1923. And "Kuruş" is the same thing as "Kurush". Please get your facts straight before presenting yourself as an expert.
On the Iranian coin, the date of issue is 1319 SH ( Solar year). That would be 1940 AD. Catalog numbering is KM#1142 . It could be a variety though ? Charles
I see, so they changed their system of dating in the 20th century? That is confusing. Krause lists earlier coins as AH 1319 being 1901, but now that you mention it I see that later entries for Iran are different.
