was wondering what a buff collector would pay for this. picked this up for my collection and was hoping i paid a good price. thanks for the input, Chris
If it was in a PCGS or NGC holder alot more than ANACS holder....have not seen prices on this variety for sometime just guessing I say around the 300-500 price range....maybe be more if the in hand eye appeal is better than your image...When I have purchased coins varieties as such I do so at shows. Checking all the vendors inventories. I did this for a coin I was searching at the Baltimore show...found some, but none were the grade, or the eye appeal I was searching. As a Jefferson collector I do have several varieties in Anacs holders ...and if I had the funds I have them regraded by NGC.
so do you find that anacs does not grade as well as ngs or pcgs? or is it just the "appeal" from those big names that people are drawn to? i was curious about this myself
It's been awhile since I have summited any coins to any TPG. I do know that NGC is a harder grading on nickels.....compared to PCGS....I will also say the errors I summited to NGC came back with great grades and it also took longer to get them graded. I have no issues with anacs grades or holders...but it seems to me others will.. having a choice A) NGC B)PCGS C)Anacs and lets say a your 1938 D/D/D most buyers would buy A or B long before they would C including me. but again I do have alot of MS Jefferson Varieties in Ancas holders and if I had the extra funds I would regrade them. As I do believe that a coin such as yours would bring more Value in a NGC or PCGS holders.
I must respectfully disagree on value, Paddy. Even if it was in an NGC slab of the same grade, this variety would bring nowhere near these prices. It may be a fine coin and an interesting RPM, but there is no chance the OP could pull down around 10x his investment. If straight grading, it has been my experience that the opposite is true.
