What is the difference between an improperly cleaned coin and a properly cleaned coin?

The simple answer is, a properly cleaned coin does not affect the metal, just removes debris.

There is no such thing as a properly cleaned coin...

I know this an old thread. But, rather than start a new one, how do you properly clean a coin. Isn't a coin either cleaned or not cleaned? If there is a proper way to clean one how is that done and not be called "cleaned"?

There have been many discussions on the proper way to clean coins (this forum). Enter 'proper coin cleaning' in the search function and see what 'pops'. Then read, read, read.........:)
