..to sell coins? I'm talkin mainly e-bay here. I would figure that in the winter would be the best because you have more people at home with more time to spend on the computer. What has been your guys experience? I am pretty new to this selling coin stuff. I just started selling some of my doubles of dug up indian head pennies. Have been averaging about $11.00 a piece. Not bad!! I have never sold any of the silver coins I have found. I love to keep my silver. Just gotta get out and find some more old indians. Thanks, Jim
There is an old traders adage - if you're gonna sell, then sell into strength. This means sell when the market is moving up - not down. So any time this is happening is a good time. But you are correct - as a general rule the coin market is stronger in the winter months. But as has been written in more than one of the hobby mags - this year seems to be the exception as it has been strong even in the summer. Now there may be more information in that fact than meets the eye. I might suggest you consider it
I started looking on Ebay in the winter months because I was bored...now look at me! I grab a Big Gulp of Coke and I love searching for my favorite dates and coins. Maybe there is something to the winter months when football games are not on television. BTW, it was also when I finally moved from dial-up to DSL.
It has been our experience that sales for anything are hottest from late September to the end of November - I'm sure it's due to Christmas. Right now, is the worst time to start selling. People are taking their last minute vacations and getting things ready for their kids to start school. Sales should pick up appreciably by the end of September. That is what has happened in years past. The two weeks following Christmas tend to be pretty slow also - but not as bad as the end of August. Hope this helps.
2 weeks following xmas are slow in everything anyone does everyone has spend there xmas money hence the january sales. to be honest watch what shops do they only offer sales and promotions when times are slow, same goes for my work construction i basically near take whole of january off.People hibernate and pay there bills in january ive found.
There's a lot to be said in keeping an eye on the sports seasons. Mondays are a great night to end auctions as long as it isn't football season. Then Sunday and Monday nights are dead unless you end stuff later. There are a lot of factors that change throughout the year. The best you can hope for is to stay on top of it as much as possible and go with the trends at the time.
So what do I do?? I have about 12 coins listed on ebay trying to sell some of my dups starting today. We shall see... Feel like I pulled a Homer Simpson...Doh!!
Not bad at all!! Had I been able to get 11.00 out of an indian I'd never have stopped detecting back in the '80's. Unfortunately, minerals in the soil here in WV cause terrible corrosion to all copper coins and my indians came out of the ground looking like green slugs.
Use the proceeds to buy a nice key coin, wait until November and resell it. I've been thinking about this strategy but I don't know if the profits would offset shipping and other fees.
Good Luck, Ed. Things are still selling - just not as high or in as much quantity. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. What is your eBay ID?
zakgold... selling some of my dups and will take the proceeds to parlay them into a nice coin...hopefully. You never know
