Had a fun day yesterday, got these in "change". The one with just the one serial number showing is a 2004 Large Head $20, since my scanner will not scan the newer bills fully. What are all of these called and are any desirable enough to save?
i dont understand what makes a desirable serial # (accept for low numbers, i understand that) just interesting patterns and/or same numbers?
Interesting numbers. birthday bills. The more of the same number the better. also radar bills example, 12344321 serial numbers. also ladder bills example 123456789 There are many combinations that people collect.
Typically, on eBay, uncirculated Radar-Repeater pairs sell for $25-$40. I believe I paid $30. I bought them mostly for the great centering and boardwalk margins.
There are certain patterns that are more desirable to some collectors. For example, ladder notes...which is when the serial number increases by 1 each number: 23456789 or RADAR notes which read the same backward and forward: 12344321. There are several other patterns that are also popular. Any sequence that repeats is popular...so 76057605 would be decent or a binary repeater would 35353535. Also, some people look for birthday notes...for me that would be 05211985. I'm not a huge serial collector though...the only think that interests me is a low serial which to me is five leading 0s or more.
