That doesn't look like any French franc I've ever seen. I'm wondering if it's either from one of the French colonies or some kind of token?
I agree with Hiddendragon. I could not find your coin/token in my 19th century Krause world coin catalog. like he said it might be a token. nice find. I like looking up coins for other coin collectors. I go a little crazy when I cannot find something though. I like doing that kind of research in my 17th, 18th, 19th, to present catalog books. I call those books my coin bibles. lol yes they are expensive but I could not imagine collecting coins without them. especially world coins.
I'd look under French Indochina/Vietnam, but I don't know if that's what it is. The strange thing is that French francs of this era were silver, and this isn't. I think this is kind of an interesting coin just because I don't know what it is and have never seen one.
The French Overseas Department of Martinique, located in the Lesser Antilles off the West Indies between Dominica and Saint Lucia, has an area of 425 sq. mi.(1,100 sq. km.). KM# 41 FRANC Copper-Nickel Obv: Bust left within circle with star above Rev: Value and date within wreath Mintage: 300,000 VG 18.00 F 30.00 VF 60.00 XF 185 UNC 500
Apparently this coin is from Martinique. I don't have books with me, but it could be a really nice find. Earlier coins from Caribbean islands are often quite rare.
Well here is a French Indo-chine copper of the era - https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-eenf06KrjxE/S2R9LJO1FlI/AAAAAAAAiUI/Rb114IptN3A/s800/IMG_3860.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4ghjkAsRVSA/S2R9LWLZtMI/AAAAAAAAiUI/4TKA35YRnZM/s800/IMG_3861.JPG
