Hi everyone this is my first post here or anywhere please bare with me. My name is Laurie and I live in Cincinnati Ohio. I have a few coins I want to get checked but this my favorite one baby steps for me lol.

Attached is that of a 2005 Kansas Quarter that is messed up. Not only does the T in Trust is missing but a lot of the letters and numbers are missing or are very faded. I appreciate any help on this.

Thank you for letting me join Coin Talk.

Hello Laurie and welcome to Coin Talk. From your description it sounds like it is a grease filled die situation. We need better close up pictures before we can say for sure. When you take the pictures, please zoom in for a close up of the entire coin. Then when you post them to the thread, please click on full image.

Welcome to CT. First thing, take a look at your photos...I really can't see any detail of the coins they are so small. If you are taking photos with a cell phone, try putting the phone on a can and use that to keep it stable while you do the photos. Adjust lighting accordingly. As to letters being missing, the dies that are used to strike the coins have cavities where the metal flows to make the design. These dies are sometimes greased to facilitate the coins release and sometimes the grease picks up dirt opr debris and fills the cavity so that letters are lost.

Welcome to CT! As @Kentucky said, closer more focused photos would be very helpful...

Thanks for replying everyone I will work on getting better pictures. The whole coin is very light. I will try to get it done soon.

Many (including myself) who have been here for years are still learning and trying.

Much better, although the focus is off or the camera moved. The only other thing to suggest is to crop the pictures and rotate.

Grease filled die, known around here as a "greaser" very interesting but not really worth a lot.

@Laurie B, that is a nice grease filled die. @Kentucky already summed up what a grease filled die is:
I'm not sure on what the value is though....

Thanks so much I have seen many with the T out in Trust but so far I could not found any like this. Is this then an error coin.

I would consider it an error and would keep it and show it off...however I will defer to @paddyman98

Thanks I was thinking about putting it on COINSFORSALE I and see what it gets there not sure yet. I don't think my kids would be interested in it.

If you don't want it for a collection, you could try and sell it here too...

Not sure how to do that or the other site. This my first time ever checking out a coin I have just been saving them. I am a newbie in the whole lol.

I think you should try to learn as much as you can about your coins before selling them, and maybe in the process you'll want to start a collection!

It's a worn die strike. Greased filled die.
It looks cool but in my honest opinion there shouldn't be a premium for it. Over the years I've seen silly listings of the same issue go for way to much money. Kind of ridiculous IMHO.
