I was given these two coins by my grandpa and was looking for opinions on grading and or worth. Thanks in advance!

The Ken is worth 12 dollars at most right, with the price of silver at 30ish.

the morgan silver dollar, rarities aside, is worth, on a really good day $30. $25 is a more realistic number.

Really? I was hoping more for the Kennedy. It is in pristine condition, no visible wear at all really.

Curious - Did anyone think to themselves, "SMS?", when they saw that '64 Kennedy?

Over the years, there has been an occasional discussion about the existence of the 1964 Special Mint Set, but to date, I have never seen one. Have you? Has anybody?

Chris, they do exist, but only a handfull of each denomination. I know a '64 SMS Lincoln was sold by Heritage a few years back.

The problem with the halves is attributing them as SMS - there are no real diagnostics to run that will confirm the coin is an SMS. It could just be a satiny, lustrous,semi-prooflike business strike, or a dull, non-cameoed proof. They can look almost identical.

I have no idea how the graders determine when a coin is SMS. I guess the only real way of knowing is by having the original, mint-issued packaging.

I, too, am aware that some individual coins have been labeled SMS, but I have never seen an original set in the OGP. Of course, I've never seen a 1964 Peace Dollar, either.
