Thank you. That is neat. My specimen only has three rays for sure. I read some about the vam varieties and is something I am interested in. Very nice collectables if you like variety. It is kind of strange that there were so many different dies made for the piece dollar. Why is that?

Goodness man, what a find! Have you thought about sending it out to get graded, you are talking about a very sought after coin that sells in the thousands of dollars.

I had one, actually it was a Grand Canyon adoptee. He was quite the vocal one when he doesn't get his organic carrots.

I found 2 95's last week. I'd totally be willing to do a trade for that 92 ;)

    Is this merely Strike Doubling?
The doubling is running North South unlike the major DD that are rotational.

Let me expand on my last posting. One needs to examine how coins are made. Ancient coins as has been pointed out, are struck one at a time so each strike in a way of speaking is unique. Machine struck coins by their very process are struck for mass distribution and unique does indeed come into play with errors, ancient, medieval, or modern.

I have seen NINE Lincoln cents struck on top of each other resulting in those coins stacked upon each other. I have handled a Connecticut copper struck with two different reverse dies. It is unique, and most likely a contrived piece but historically, and numismaticaly important none the less. It is very unlikely two with the same reverse dies were struck; at least to my knowledge.

Now, one can have a coins that is unique to the owners collecting habits. That would be a unique coin for you. I love flip-over double strikes, and coins struck out of collar. Most are too rich for my blood but one can find them especially in the ancient realm. So yes, let's see them and have some fun together.

This coin of King Vologases III of Parthia is probably the most unique as of this moment.

What makes it unique? Look at the die polishing marks on the obverse. Some apprentice in antiquity got a little overeager polishing the die and left a unique memento of his work for us to admire 1,870 + years later.
