Coming frim the owner of the x6 collection, that means alot.

For those that don't know this guy has got some wild coins! Really wild!

This has to be one of the best of type I've ever seen.

Everyone needs one of these tetradrachms- although the going price right now is about $450 in lesser condition. In hindsight I did get a decent deal, I paid $ 250 Euro for this one. Considerably more then I am happy spending, but I really feel this coin was/ is more than worth it. I just can't capture how awesome it is in photos. The coin is just majestic in every way. When I start looking at coins of this type in slightly better condition it carries the price beyond the $1000 mark. I had a my eye on a super one, the guy listed it for about $1700, I got him down to about $800 but in the end it was still waaaaaaay more than I was willing to spend. Now there is a decent one on numismall for about $250 but it is several rungs of condition lower than this one.

 

If I ever came to your house I would grab that coin and run for my life!

 

also I wanted to save some funds for a nice large Ptolemy Bronze piece that I was able to get from a fellow collector / ebay seller with exceptional coins.

If you get a chance check out the listings of coin.ages on ebay. Great items, some really top tier stuff, some with top tier prices and rightfully so. I would also like to note this seller has boosted the x6 collection to new heights of phat.

 

We have our big coin show in April,( PNNA) so i'm holding out to pick up some hot buys...:yes:

Now thats funny. After completing the transaction, that was my plan. I kind of think of her like a mail order bride.

This coin fits into a pretty cool collection of Roman enemies and commemorative denarius of the the decisive events and figures between 215 -146 BC.

Perseus was defeated by the legions of the Roman consul Lucius Aemilius Paullus at the Battle of Pydna in 168 BC. This defeat was largely due to the inflexibility of Macedonian phalanx tactics compared to the maniple-based tactics of the Roman legions.
In the aftermath of this battle, King Perseus surrendered and was taken to Rome along with members of his court and other prisoners from the leading families of Macedon, including the historian Polybius. In addition, around 300,000 Macedonian citizens were enslaved. A number of Macedonian cities and villages were destroyed and their land distributed to the Roman veterans and their Thracian allies. Macedonia itself was divided into four Roman client republics, each of which was required to pay duty to Rome at half the rate previously due to the Macedonian kings. Economic and political contacts between the four republics were restricted.
The Third Macedonian war marked the effective end of Hellenistic Macedonia and the monarchy of the Antigonid dynasty, and further enhanced Roman domination of Ancient Greece. Rome later returned to symbolically destroy Corinth in 146 BC in the Fourth Macedonian War, in a manner reminiscent of their destruction of the defanged Carthage in the Third Punic War."
