Hey everyone! Just wanted to communicate something to you about a recent issue I've had with eBay (so that it doesn't happen to you, and that we can get it changed for future sellers.) I recently listed about 94 items on eBay. About 1/3 sold, and a few buyers were extremely prompt with their payments. Wanting to process these, I started a bulk shipping order through eBay, paid for the shipping, and then printed the labels. A little while after, I received a confused message from one of my buyers. Basically, the bulk shipping had attached a message I'd sent to a delinquent buyer four days prior... From the bulk shipping page, I had no idea this message was even sent, or why a private message to a buyer had someone found its way onto a bulk shipping order to new buyers. I can totally understand the confusion this caused on the part of my buyers, and I've already sent messages to ALL my buyers just in case they'd also received this email. (FYI, it wasn't aggressive, just notifying them that I'd sent multiple invoices and not heard back. I try to stay as polite as possible, even with the deadbeats.) I just wanted to again apologize to any CT members who might have been confused by this strange message, and warn current eBay sellers that this kind of thing might happen - so check your shipping screens! Thanks again, ~benjamin
Speaking of delinquent customers, what is it about NOW that buyers don't understand when they click on Buy It NOW????
Last night I had someone purchase two coins from me in auctions, pay for one, and then also manually mark the 2nd coin as "payment sent". I've sent a message and an invoice to him stating that I only received payment for one of the two coins. He has yet to reply. I have stopped trying to figure out what some people are trying to accomplish. It's very clear in the transaction history which coins were paid for and which were not. Regarding BINs, I don't understand why eBay doesn't make it a site-wide practice that Buy It Now items remain active and open to other purchasers until payment is received! The item should only be guaranteed yours after it is paid for.
When you list an item you can require instant payment on BINS, and if the buyer doesn't do it, the item remains listed. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt though.
I always require instant payments when I put BINs on my auctions. If someone has time to click on BIN and go through the next few clicks, then they have time to finish paying for the item.
Someone mentioned here that you can set your auctions to require payment after a certain period of time or eBay will automatically open a case...of course, I looked and looked on eBay's site and couldn't find how to do it while I was listing my last batch of coins. Anyway...this person had 0 feedback (not a great sign, but hey, money is money, and if you pay like everyone else does...I have no problem with you. Of course, this person chose NOT to pay. Not getting off to a great start, whoever you are...) I thought I remembered being able to block people with feedback below a certain number, but that option has disappeared as well (or maybe it was never really there?) Just another normal day on feeBay...
What if I want to buy another item from you or wait for one of your auctions to end, so I can combine shipping and make one paypal payment saving you paypal fees.
Ebay policy changes for may 1st. To help reduce unpaid items, eligible fixed price and auction-style listings purchased with Buy It Now will now remain for sale until a buyer has paid for the item. This change will take effect gradually over the coming months. Most sellers won’t need to take any action. If you offer combined shipping discounts, update your listing descriptions with instructions for buyers to add the items they want to purchase to the eBay Shopping Cart. Get details
I know I'd have absolutely no problem with that - I'd also have no problems combining auction-style listings and BIN/BO style listings that had free shipping...as long as it all fit in the box, why not save the buyer the shipping costs? All I'd want is notification of what you intended as a buyer.
I don't sweat it. If someone pays, I ship. If they don't, I relist. I just don't care about eBay that much. I admire the people who make businesses out of it, because I know it's a tremendous amount of work, and you've got all those fees to deal with. Bother. The only stuff I sell is stuff that I don't care about in terms of profit.
*shrugs* That's never happened to me, so I dunno. Same. As long as I don't lose money, I don't really care.
eBay and Paypal have gotten like the Fed - the fees totally stifle my enthusiasm for any real enterprise. I just basically unload stuff that I don't want anymore.
Currently this is only true if you have an eBay store. Starting in May this will be true across the board.
Ebay is getting to be a tough place to get paid. I had a buyer that sent me 2 echecks in 28 days and both bounced 4 times. Funny thing is. The buyer kept telling me something was wrong on my end. $18 deal and can't get paid. G
