As some of you might of heard, I was very angry yesterday because my dad opened the box of 10 American Eagle Sets that I wanted to ship to NGC. Well, I looked through the box, and all of the boxes were nicked and dented and many of the coins (in their airtight cases) were out of place and a few of the COA'S were bent too. A couple of coins were even OUT of their airtight cases. Too make a long story short, I'm shipping the lot back and when I get a new box, I can send it to NGC like I wanted to do in the first place:thumb:
Man, don't tell me that. I got my set today and already sent them to PCGS without opening the box without looking at them. Now I'm thinking I should have. This could get interesting..............
the mint sets aside a certain number for returns. also they can mint more coins to REPLACE ones that have been damaged in shipping. I wouldn't be surprised if they over mint issues with minting limits to take care of damaged returns, then melt the extras after a set period of time.
bounced around i opend a box before i newbetter, the coins were out of place, but other then that.no problem
Got mine yesterday. I busted the 10 set case and only opened 1 set. The coins in the mint airtites were all askew inside the 3 coin case. None seem worse for wear, but after 20 plus years of the Mint selling us PREMIUM products at a PREMIUM price, it ****es me off big time, that they just don`t get quality control. Proof sets with gouges in the coins. Inproper planchet washing that results in spotted and toned HIGH END, HI-DOLLAR mint products . These Haze, Spots, and Toning that only shows after a year or 3 .Never mind the scratches and outright abused proof coins. unacceptable...........
Mine came when they first began shipping them. I opened the box every single coin was not placed were it should have been. The were all rattling around in transit. None came out of the airtites though. No damage. No need to return them. I did however call the mint the very next day to complain. She said she would notify the appropriate people. Guess they still didn't care whenit came time for the second round of shipments. You guys should all call them. 1-800-USA-MINT. maybe if they get enough calls they'll start to believe it.
Yeah, I think by now everyone knows not to expect the three coins to arrive snug in the case. The only question that remains is will the inner capsules be intact. I just got my 2nd case of 5 and 2 of the 5 sets were damaged. Coins loose inside the case, outside of the capsules. I'm glad I didn't have this box graded. Luckily, the first box of 5 that I sent in last month was more gently treated during shipping. I got 3 perfect sets out of that bunch.
I think this just cemented my decision to skip the sets... I have to admit that I wasn't as enamored of the reverse proof as I thought I would be, though, after seeing one live and in person.
Packaging again Buying unopened coins can be a real error unless they can be returned. Packaging is a business in and of itself. Internal packaging is the culprit most of the time. A piece of fine buble wrap placed over the coins will put just enough pressure from all directions to keep them from moving. This works well when you sell a coin or set to another. It would also keep down returns at the mints, and should go directly to the bottom line. Theirs not yours. Floyd
I am just crossing my fingers that my set will be pristine when it gets to NGC... I asked them what they do if when they open the box they find the coins loose and beat up (BU!) no response yet...
