Hi Neil and to CoinTalk. I think all of us will be interested in seeing the responses to your survey. Perhaps you will find it so interesting that you'll become a collector too. Here are my responses: Q1. My primary collection consists of Japanese coins from 1867 to the present, but I also have a one coin per country collection, and several specific topic collections, such as brass coins, bids on coins, etc. Q2. I primarily store/display circulated coins in 2"x2" cardboard holders with mylar windows, in three-ring binders, 20 to a page. Uncirculated and all gold coins are kept in protective plastic holders, with pictures of them at the appropriate places in the albums. Everything is kept in a well-hidden safe with copious amounts of silica gel. Q3. My primary collection is displayed in date order within denominations. The OFEC is in country order and if there were multiple governmental regimes, they examples are in date order within the country. My speciality collections are in sequences appropriate to each collection. Q4/5. If you are referring to problems integrating new acquisitions into existing albums, I generally leave space for items I intend to acquire in the future, but frequently have to completely rearrange specialty collections.
Welcome to CoinTalk! Here are responses from both of us: Q1. Do you collect coins from: My focus is 20th Century Type Coins and Lincoln Cents at the moment. My six year old daughter's focus is "coins with Queen Elizabeth on them" plus Canada Small Cents, Lincoln Memorial Cents and some miscellaneous world coins. Q2. How do you store/display your collection now? Mine is primarily in binders and Dansco albums. My daughter's coins are primarily in a binder with 2x2 pages plus some Whitman folders. Q3. Do you like to display your coins in order of: Mine are by Type/date for the 20th Century set; by date on the others My daughter's are generally by country except for the folders Q4. Do you ever encounter problems when adding coins to your collection? I don't, my daughter does Q5. If yes, what problems occur? Rearranging all the coins in the binder! Good luck with the survey.
