First I will say, I know it to good to be true. But I have a guy that found a 1943 no mint mark copper cent under an old school house. The 3 hangs below the other numbers, an magnet does not stick. The guy wants to sell for $400 which seems low. What else can be done to prove fake or real. Thanks for any help. (My pics are know good ) I've got to work on my pic taking

If he thought it was real for a second he would want way more than $400. I would stay away.

It's more than likely fake. Is there any other way to tell a fake from a real. Other than magnet, an 3 hanging below the other numbers.

Not everyone is knowledgeable about market price. Plus, there is a cost and aggravation factor in confirming it's authentication. If he found it a an old school, I wonder about it's condition as well.

Now questioning it's authentication is reasonable, assuming it is a fake is not. Chances are, he doesn't have any idea whether it's real or not.

Cents from this era are commonly found in change...and nobody thinks much of them. Sure, people save them...but they don't believe they are worth $400. The fact that he thinks this coin is...means is knows at least something about coins.

You know he wouldn't sell it for that cheap if he thought at all that it was real, sounds like a quick way to learn a $400 lesson. The Chinese pop these out by the thousands. Oh, and by-the-way, he only SAID he found it 'under an old school house', not 'he found it under an old school house'. There is a big difference.

The guy does think he has the real coin. An he said he can't find anything wrong with it. I've only seen some bad pics the coin is in not to good of shape. Maybe EF but with this coin shape for the most part does not apply. If it can be found to be real. Sense he knows about weight an other parts to look for he should know the prices it could bring. I don't mind taking a gamble but I want to be very informed about what to look for. The only true way is to have it graded.
