My 10 American Eagle 20th Anniversary Sets came today. I told my dad a week ago NOT to open any box that says "fufillment center" on it. So what does he do? He opens it. All he did was take the packing tape off the top, so I'll get of the same tape and see if I can still get the coins certified as 20th anniversary set by NGC....Do you think they'll notice? The box isn't really torn that much or anything....Oh, and why do you think the mint website still says my order is "in stock and reserved?"
if the box is opened (as in nothing securing it closed) you are out of luck, you can try though. I would question how much extra value you will get out of the label though. Even if the box is opened the reverse proof will still get the special label. (ngc has stated this)
1. Well, retaping the package would be dishonest. 2. If you send in the set, the NGC certification numbers will be consecutive. Since the Reverse Proof only comes in the set, and the regular proof and uncirculated coins will have cert. #'s that will be within 2 #'s of the reverse proof, a person will be able to figure out the unc. and regular proof came from a set anyway. 3. There is not a substantial price difference between 20th Anniversary and non- 20th Anniversary coins.
Well, in regards to the dishonest thing...I really dn't think it is...I mean, it was a mistake....and It's not like I changed anything out.....I think I''l try re-taping it and sending them in...If they see that it has already been opened, then oh well=/ Thanks for the advice though=)
You can't even open the box they ship them in? WOW! I'm glad I didn't get mine today when they tried to ship them or I would have opened them. I thought each set would have some in a tamper proof box like the nickel sets do from the Mint. I really don't think it matters though because the reverse proof is the coin everybody wants, the other two can be bought seperately from the Mint. There is only one place you could have gotten the reverse proof from anyways.
So do you guys think I should only send the reverse proofs to get graded? I really don't want to break the sets...
I wouldn't send in any of them---keep them as a set raw!...IMHO all of these people sending in the sets and breaking them apart is really bad--not that the packing matters but to me someday this set might be wanted with the packing. Speedy
Well Speedy, I was kind of hoping to get a PF 70 Reverse Proof...I saw one selling for over 1,600 dollars on Ebay, which I could really use=p
Dream on - PF 70 isn't THAT common. If you want to cash in on that, you might as well play lottery. I'm sorry but I don't have respect for people who just break up sets just to make quick profit.
I think Speedy is right on this. But it goes to show how the TPGs own your soul when it comes to collecting.
You can request that NGC ship you back the original packaging. gxseries - with 11% of Reverse proofs graded 70 at NGC, the 'ultimate grade' does appear to be that common.
