I generally do pretty well with ebay, but I bought this low grade proof earlier today because I didn't have that year yet. I havent made any regrets for my u.s. coins but then again I rarely bought any on ebay. Now ancients....about 40% and its mainly cause I was being cheap.
It doesn't happen as much as it once did. When I started getting serious about collecting, I was buying a lot of junk silver and coins of all types with no real goal other than to increase the volume of my collection. After time, I started getting more focused on specific types. Now, while I still have an open mind about what I want to buy, I focus on quality over quantity. So lately I will wait a month or two between purchases to find the right coin at the right price. It doesn't eliminate the mistakes, but does seem to reduce them.
